Malta's Gordon Elvis has won the European Elvis Championships, held in the Hilton Metropole in the UK.

Gordon, 29 from Naxxar, changed his surname and moved to the UK from Malta four years ago and is an Elvis Tribute Artist. Last year he was crowned Images of the King World Champion in Memphis Tennessee.

The European Elvis Championship is an annual event held around Elvis’s birthday weekend on January 8 and celebrates the musical icon who died at the age of 42, on August 16, 1977. There were more than 70 contest participants this year.

Gordon Elvis was awarded the accolade for best act, as well as a cash prize, a trip for two to Memphis and a specially made Elvis jumpsuit.

He will be coming to Malta to give a show in June.

His repertoire includes more than 350 songs and he has 35 different Elvis outfits, ranging from 1950s leather to sparkling sequin jumpsuits.

He began singing Elvis songs when he was a toddler and now wows rock ‘n’ rollers worldwide with his tribute act.

He told the media last year that his parents were both big Elvis fans and he grew up listening to Elvis.

He came third in the European Elvis Championship 2012, third in the Images Of The King Contest 2011 and second in the Elvis World Cup 2010.
