I hope the old fellow will be ok in due course, however since i have been in Malta ,this sort of hit and run sems to be on the increase on the islands, i wonder why? In the UK hit and run is a very very serious offence i know i was on the force for 33 years and the consequences when the driver of the vehicle is caught will probably serve time., where are your cctv cameras on the islands?

Unfortunitly Mr.Hawker CCTVs are too few and too far in between, unlike in the UK a criminal is usually caught withing days if not hours, maybe when a new government is elected, the minister in charge will see the light and employ more cameras for the citizen's safety, same as any civilized country in the eu.

Malta doesn't seem to regard hit-and-run anywhere close to seriously Mr. Hawker.
The driver in a 2008 hit-and-run, who the court found guilty of causing the death of a 59-year old jogger in Mosta, got a 1 year loss of license, 3yr suspended jail term (i.e. counts for nothing as he'll never be in jail) and a Eur500 court fine. And the driver has now actually appealed that too!
