Jailed seven years for trafficking drugs near Junior College
A man who admitted to having trafficked ecstasy in the vicinity of the Junior College in Msida was jailed for seven years today.
Andre Falzon, 26, from St Paul's Bay, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and simple possession of heroin instead of facing a trial by jury.
He was caught outside the Junior College with 346 ecstasy pills in 2005.
The court heard that he had resisted arrest and initially managed to get away from the police before his eventual arrest. A policeman was slightly injured.
Mr Justice Michael Mallia sentenced him to seven years in jail and fined him €15,000 which if not paid are converted into an extra year in jail.
Lawyers Lara Lanfranco and Charmaine Camilleri Zarb from the Attorney General's office prosecuted while lawyer Veronique Dalli appeared for the accused.

346 ecstasy pills = 7 years + 15k fine
Rape 3 girls= 7 years jail
Own one cannabis plant = 10+ years?
come on!!! we need a change in our laws. decriminalisation of drugs is good for all. After all, there is tobacco and alcohol which kill tooo many people. Cannabis kills none and has no bad effects on the population. Want to Win the next election? Decriminalise drugs! Legalise weed!

Good to see such sentences ... However there is NO proportion to what one could get if in possession of a joint or two. By the same yard stick of sentences meted out to individuals in possession of small amount of weed, this criminal should have gotten 15 years!

I totally agree with Mr Camilleri especially as the crime occurred in the vicinity of a college full of young adults. A 7 year sentence is riducolous in light of the fact that the Courts took that number of years to decide this case on a contravention perpetrated in 2005!!

If soft drugs were regulated many deaths would have been avoided. Preaching abstinence from drugs, like preaching abstinence from sex, does not work. People have always and will always try new experiences. So lets make the world a safer place, by regulating drugs, the same that teaching people to use condoms can reduce prevalence of STDs and unwanted pregnancies.
