Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi is to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Wednesday.

Sources said the two leaders may also address a joint press conference on Wednes-day afternoon.

The meeting is expected to address several EU-related issues, including the ongoing negotiations on the EU’s budget for the next seven years and talks on issues such as trade and investment between the two countries.

The visit will take place on the third official day of the electoral campaign, which begins on Monday ahead of the March 9 election.

Dr Gonzi’s Government was defeated in Parliament last month after one of his own MPs voted with the Opposition against the Budget.
