Labour will kick off its electoral campaign with a mass meeting in Gozo on January 13.
The party’s executive secretary, Lydia Abela, made the announcement on One TV’s breakfast show yesterday.
Gozo is traditionally a Nationalist stronghold but Labour has, over the past few years, tried to make inroads as it targeted the 13th district as a key battleground for the March 9 election.
The locations of the first and last mass meetings in a campaign are usually the most significant.
The Nationalist Party will reportedly hold its first mass meeting on the same day at the Floriana Granaries, where the party holds its annual celebration of Independence Day.
After several weeks of a Christmas truce agreed by the two parties, the election campaign starts on Monday, when Parliament is expected to be dissolved.
Labour has over the past months maintained a strong lead on the PN, according to opinion polls.
