The wind speed in December was for 56 per cent of the time, in the light speed bracket, the Meteorological Office said in a statement today.

The speed, it said, averaged 10 knots, slightly more than the 9.8 knots expected in December.

On December 3 a maximum wind gust of 43 knots was recorded.

Last month’s average air temperature of 14.2°C also exceeded the climate norm, by 0.3°C.

The highest temperature recorded was 20°C on December 15. The highest recorded for December since 1947 was on December 5, 1963 when it reached 24.3°C.

The lowest last month was 6.4°C, recorded on December 13. The coolest December night was on December 22, 1967 with a low of 3.6°C.
