Trust M borg (slm) apologist to ascribe the marathon MOANING of PL! If instead of Gonzi, we had Muscat, who intended to 'follow' Cyprus' 'success', I doubt whether the Maltese would have been able to donate so much. Most probably, under Muscat's 'following' of Cyprus, we would be asking for a bale-out! If the collected was miserable YOU would have blamed it on Gonzi, for sure!

Sintendi, meta qed nghid Maltin qed ninkludi lil ghawdxin ukoll li dejjem taw sehemhom b'xi mod jew iehor meta kien hemm Il-bzonn. Sa' anke organizzjonijiet ohra ghandhom, ghall nies fil-bzonn. Proset mill-gdid u l-aktar lil Tonio u team tieghu ta' l-RTK li dejjem ghaddejjien u jhajru nies/ghaqdiet jipparteccipaw b'xi mod jew iehor.

Fix what? Giving? Generosity? Plenty?
Even Jesus said that poor people will be everywhere, forever.
And the Dar tal-Providenza is for the poor.
There are different meanings to 'poor'.
Give, give, give, and you will receive; that is why we Maltese are blessed, because we are generous.
What we need to do is give generously at church; cents are not enough.
We want a service without paying anything.

Sultana Stop complaining about poverty! You have had an 'overdose' of PL propaganda! According to them, poverty is on the rise, peope are starving, unemployment is on the rise: and YET - 800,000 to PL/PN; 3,300,000 to Strina; 975,000 to Providenza; not counting Mission Day, and other charities! Starving, my foot! Other facts: alltime tourism records; record Maltese going abroad, Poverty??

Joe M Borg, I am glad you don't feel poor, however you can't ignore the poverty around you. Nowadays even if work on minimum wage is difficult to meet the ends, as Caritas said. If you feel wealthy may I suggest a hefty donation to the Millennium Chapel and volunteer a couple of hours supporting the poor other then wasting your time following NET and TVM.

B Borg. While thankfully I don't consider myself poor, I'm not verey wealthy either. My dea parents thought me to live WITHIN MY BUDGET, not as many 'poor' do!
Who told you I watch Net and TVM? Who told yopu I don't donate, and I don't give voluntary work? For your info, I don't have time to watch ANY TV. I think you are brainwashed by Onetv as well! You put everybody in one basket!

That's a half truth, Mr Schembri. The whole truth is: The generosity and the PROSPERITY of the Maltese never fails to impress.

Mr Demartino

YOU never fail to impress. Why do you have to give something so beautiful as the act of giving a political twist? You really need to pull your act together! Happy New Year

@Silvio Abela

It's still a beautiful and noble act Silvio, but facts are facts. The country prospered and is prospering, hence the power to give.

Happy new year to all.

@ Silvio - Mr Demartino has the right to comment as he did after 5 years hearing the same story faqar , ser inehhu l pensjonijiet, ser igibu l isptar bil flus, itellaq wahdu etc. Poor will always remain poor but I believe in social justice and not giving the fish but the rod to improve. An from all the quotes I mentioned only one proved to be a revelation itellaq wahdu in Dec 2012

@ De Martino - Il-generozita' mhux bilors tigi minn dawk li ghandom il-prosperita'. Il-generozita' tigi mill-qalb u mhux mill-but. U biex tkun taf fuq il-livell ta' prosperita' hawn Malta iccekkja ftit x'jghidu ghaqdiet bhal Caritas u siti ufficjali bhal NSO. Jekk ma tafx l-ahhar statistika tghid li llum hawn 88,000 persuna f'Malta jew 21% fil-mija li huma fir-riskju ta' faqar.

Le Sur Balzan. Jien ma noqghod fuq hadd ghax aktarx li kulhadd ikollu xi agenda mohbija. Jien noqghod BISS fuq li nara. Il-generozita tigi mill-qalb? Ipporova, mela, tini mqar bicca hobz jekk bicca hobz ma ghandekx. Izjed jorbot u jholl il-but milli l-qalb. U mela nsemmu l-eluf ta' fqar. M'hawx prosperita ikbar minn taghna fid-dinja kollha. Hares madwarek u ara.

Mr Balzan. In those 21% you mention, who are in risk of poverty, keep in mind that there are 'some' who claim 'povertry', like some sinlge parent's claiming 'unknown father', so that they get benefits from OUR pockets. Others on the 'poverty' % include some who claim unpemployment, who live on social benefits, WHILE SECRETLY SELF EMPLOYED. They get benefits from OUR POCKETS! Get it?

Dear Mr. DeMartino I beg kindly to disagree with your comment.

In the Bible there is a parabel about an old poor woman who gave all she had while others gave from what was surplus for them .

Yes, the Maltese people show their generosity in many ways apart from money but this does not define all who donated are prosperous.

The Poor also gave for the Poorest.

Kulhadd jipprova jgebbed kemm jiflah biex juri li hawn il-faqar. Imma, jahasra, faqar m'hawnx. BIL-PROVI.
