Yes and that is a far lower increase compared to those in norther European countries. The Maltese have it very easy in comparison.

@ C. Cassar : In Italy the average wage is €2000 on average, in Malta the average wage is €1200. Therefore before quoting gas prices abroad, one has to quote the average monthly wage.

Pensioners in Malta earning less than €800 per month and who need to heat their homes, will think twice before they use their gas heater this winter.

I received my last water & electrical bill last April and I live in Gozo. Now a friend of mine was told to go and collect it from the Water Works Office in Victoria as every body is doing this. Is this lack of sending these bill a strategy by someone because election is round the corner?

JM i think you are special because the bills are sent every 3 months ,one will be the estimated one and the other will be the actual. Do not mislead people because of your passionate politics.

@Joe Demicoli you are one, from a hundred. The last bill we received was last September so as per you I am due to receive the bill. But I have my doubts, because I have a bad experience from ARMS ltd. Last March I received 4 bills in a row that where of a big shock. And don't think that these bills where posted, it was when I opened my electronic portal that I knew that I had 4 unpaid bills.

@j brincat
We all know what Joseph Muscat will do regarding the € 600 a WEEK ... he would set up a board so that this board will then GIVE HIM the increment HE wants!! Nice!! In other words Joseph is doing what Joseph does best ... playing with words!!

James Abela

Dec 31st 2012, 16:21

€ 600? Is that what Joseph is planning? With the PN it was 500

Good news when the price of a gas cylender was 5.40 ewros---!!!!!! Not 19.50 ewros!!!

Dec 31st 2012, 15:09

E. Azzopardi, and only Morons would also think That Muscat and the PL would reduce prices without rising taxing and/or cutting in other areas such as Helathcare, Education, etc.

Gordon Farrugia

Dec 31st 2012, 15:23

Joe only morons would drown the country in 5,000,000,000 Euros of debt knowing that they will have to pay the fantastic sum of 250 million Euros just to service this debt!!!!!! All utility bills have been grossly inflated because of this huge debt spiral the current administration has created!!

Joseph Aquilina

Dec 31st 2012, 15:47

@Gordon Farrugia
Clearly you lack the minimum understanding of how ALL western economies are managed this day. Money is meant to generate more money! The problem is not the debt, but not being able to pay such debt. Thanks to PN Malta has a strong economy which can handle such a debt ... I do not know what might happen if lejber and Always Wrong Joseph gets to power!!

stephen koludrovic

Dec 31st 2012, 16:01

@ Gordon Farrugia,

I tend to agree with you that all the prices have been grossly inflated.

M. Bezzina

Dec 31st 2012, 17:12

Dear Joe vella
that is your opinion. JM already told you how the W&E bills are to go down. The money spent in consultations by hon.Austin Gatt will be allocated to make the reduction!!!

Joe Bonanno

Dec 31st 2012, 22:40

Re Joseph Aquilina

May I recommend reading Economics 101.

Perhaps then you'll be able to come out of your self imposed cocoon. The PN CANNOT pay off the debt. They even have to borrow to pay the interest on the debt. Try and face the fact that the PN is bankrupting Malta. But, alas, like all good Nationalists, what the PN bosses say is always right and must be repeated.

Maybe employment for some 8000 persons may be created.

Aristide Galea

Jan 1st, 17:53

Mr. Demartino , are they going to be employed at Smart City Malta ?

Noel Hili

Dec 31st 2012, 14:53

So let's say the price was reduced by coincidence.... The price of the same quantity of GAS abroad (delivered through the GAS Network) are very much cheaper in countries where the payroll costs are higher.

Mr. M. Camilleri

Dec 31st 2012, 15:04

Since you mentioned it . . . . you thought about it too!! :))

Happy new year to all!

R. Azzopardi

Dec 31st 2012, 15:04

@Noel Hili,

Do you have the foggiest idea how much it costs to heat a home in central Europe? This year I only turned on a gas heater for a couple of nights. My friends in Switzerland have had to turn their central heating on full blast for the past 8 weeks. No matter how hefty their payroll is, it still costs a bomb.

Joe Vella

Dec 31st 2012, 15:13

@ Noel Cini, prosit ghalik. Why don't you compare apples with apples. Why don't you tell us how much people are charged in various European Countries where gas is purchased in Cylinders.

R. Azzopardi

Dec 31st 2012, 15:05

Kollha kemm ahna nixtiequ hekk Claire. Pero jekk tittawwal naqra fuq l-internet u tara naqra kemm gholew il-prezzijiet tal-gass u z-zejt mill-2004 li l'hawn, wahdek tinduna li ghola b'mod fahxi.

Vincent Cassar

Dec 31st 2012, 15:40

Sur Azzopardi, xi hadd bravu kien qal illi l-prezzijiet taghna ghandhom jirriflettu is-swieq internazzjonali. Kollox sew s'hemm...imma b'din il-logika il-prezz tas-swieq internazzjonali jitla U JINZEL...imma f'Malta jibqa' dejjem tiela'...anki meta il-prezzijiet jinzlu. Apparti minn dan kollu kien hemm hafna bravi illi ikkritikaw il-hedging meta il-prezzijiet kienu baxxi!

Anthony Scicluna

Dec 31st 2012, 15:01

What were the international prices then? They were significantly lower but as a Labourite you forget this. What was the price during Alfred Sant's reign of economic boom? You also forget that gas prices were increased by labour even though international prices were low. Hallina grid

Joe Vella

Dec 31st 2012, 15:17

j. brincat, in all your wisdom, what was the price on the international market in 2008? We all know that the price of oil on the international market was $12.00 per barrel. AT that price the Sant Government more than trebled the Electricity Tariffs. No need to tell me that the above article deals with heating and cooking gas. I know the difference.
