Teenage vandals
A 19-year-old man from Floriana was remanded in custody while a 14-year-old from Msida was conditionally discharged for three months after the two pleaded guilty to causing more than €1,500 damage to public property.
They also pleaded guilty to breaching the peace.
The 19-year-old, Niko Zammit, was also charged with breaching conditions of a previous release, escaping custody and disobeying police orders.
He was ordered to pay half the cost of the damage.

why would the court only make the two teens pay exactly for the repairs. The owners of the property should be compensated heftily for their loss and for their hassle to having to repair and for having to (possibly) take leave from work to attend court. criminals should be made aware that if they act irresponsibly they will suffer substantial financial loss not the "minimum"

I agree to your comment, only in part. The 14 year olds parents should be held accountable too, since the young offender is below 18 and the responsibility of the parent.

Alas, if they can be a niusance at that tender age, what will they be able to do when they are older? Poor future victims.

Mr.Borg I agree with you 100%.In my opinion it us,the parents who are failing these youngsters, either by not being there for them or by spoiling them. Not all parents of course.

Yesterday the Times reported that it was the minor who had to pay half of these costs. If he is receiving a wage how and when is he going to repay the cost of the damage and why only half?
