Daniel’s Shopping Complex inaugurated
Daniel’s Shopping Complex in Hamrun was officially inaugurated today by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.
The complex, which boasts a total floor area of 32,000 square meters, has transformed the former Hollywood cinema and adjoining properties into a state-of-the-art retail outlet which includes a supermarket, entertainment complex, as well as residential apartments and penthouses.

Who are you to object against the invitation of the owners of the supermarket to declare their premises open?
This could be the least they could do to say thank you to the Government for giving them an environment where they can invest.
May a PL in Governement will give a better opportunity to private companies to flourish and create jobs.
But no bulk buying please. Well done.

Daniel’s Shopping Complex in Hamrun was officially inaugurated today by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi.
But it is not ready 100% yet.

And your point is? Why not join the hundreds of visitors and make use of this complex including the supermarket to best serve your needs? It is a place where one can enjoy few hours shopping and/or having a cuppa/snack. Once again, prosit to the owners for Daniel's in Hamrun.

So what if it is not ready yet. The most important is that the public has a decent access and the common parts are ready. One cannot wait for all the outlets to be completed. In time all the complex will be eventually ready.
I would like to see a ramp for wheel chairs and puschairs at the front entrance.

A ramp for wheel chairs and pushchairs exists at the front entrance on the right hand side.

@ Joseph Sammut
Thank you for correcting my belief that there is no ramp on the front entrance. I thought that this was round the corner from the front entrance which is in the street leading to Qormi.

Now, that this shopping complex has been OFFICIALLY opened, I sincerely hope that Transport Malta would move the bus stop 'Diego' somewhere better as with cars and trucks illegal parking in the bus stop bay is causing problems to the commuters to alight in the Arriva buses as some have to stop nearly in the middle of the road.
Apart from Daniels there is the Bank's Atm and the takeaways outlets

I fully agree with you Effie, the staff are very helpful and the parking is very reasonable so I don't know why many are double and triple parking in a bus stop bay in front of the complex.

Prices?

I went there on Sunday to the supermarket. The prices are very good and the atmosphere clean. Nice selection.
Joseph Sammut
Dec 28th 2012, 17:44
@AMBonello: are you referring to parking prices or the supermarket prices? You seem to target the supermarket. In my opinion, it is indeed "beautiful", outfitted for purpose - refreshing especially in combination with Daniel's complex. We have been doing our weekly shopping since it opened for some weeks now and we can say that week in week out, prices are competitive with a good selection.

Dec 28th 2012, 17:46
@A M Bonello the rates are €1.30 for the first hour and €1.00 for any additional hours however I spent less than €5 at the supermarket and I was given a voucher for a free hour parking. A couple of roads away the Hamrun Local Council car park only cost €1 for 24 hours of parking.
C. Bartoli
Dec 28th 2012, 17:48
@AM Bonello In Naples I paid €8 an hour and I had to leave the car keys with the attendent and the average rate for parking in other European countries is € 3.50 per hour even if parking on the road.

When I went there the supermarket gave me a full day parking ticket for free. I spent 20 Euro. I think they are giving all day free parking now to all spending more than 5 euro.

@Mr Stafrace,
Listen , i tend to shop around for the best price. I can assure you that the prices at the supermarket there are NOT competitive.
Now, you can contradict me as much as you like but I know exactly what I am talking about. and I plan to carry on doing my shopping at my usual two venues where I get eccellent quality for the best price possible.

Id-dove tat-750ml il kbir sibnieh 2.25. Jien mhux intis fuq il prezzijiet imma prezzijiet tajbin zgur dawn.

Will you all eliminate the political nonsense please. These complex is a private investment and is named after a little kid who passed away just over 10 years ago due to illness. He would have been finishing school this year and this complex is partly his fathers and in his memory. Show some respect!

How can you call this 'a state of the art Shopping complex' when there is no provision for disabled persons at the entrance to this complex. As soon as you walk in you come face to face with a flight of steps. A bit difficult to negotiate if you are in a wheelchair.
Aldo Chircop
Dec 28th 2012, 15:22
I'm pretty sure there's actually also a side door that takes you into the complex through a ramp, for easy access by wheel chairs and goods trolleys.
Duncan Tanti
Dec 28th 2012, 15:28
If I am not mistaken there is the lift on the left hand side of the entrance!!
Danielle van der Molen
Dec 28th 2012, 15:30
If I am not mistaken, around the corner there is the side entrance with a ramp that leads to the lifts.
John Grima
Dec 28th 2012, 15:41
@ A Chircop
Why should disabled persons and women pushing wheelchairs be relegated to using a side door. A simple ramp at the front would have been more appropriate. If you are in a wheelchair and you do not know that there is an appropriate side entrance you end up not using the complex all. Even so why should disabled people not be allowed to use the normal entrance like everyone else.
A. Attard
Dec 28th 2012, 16:13
why should someone who is disabled be directed to a side door to gain entrance to the shopping complex?

And do you think that the Prime Minister gate-crashed the inauguration? Or was he there on the invitation of the owners?
BTW I congratulate the owners of this new complex and wish them all the success they deserve in their new venture.

During the 'silent period' Dr. Gonzi is still prime minister and if invited to inaugurate a commercial complex employing dozens of new workers, then the silence is broken by an apt celebration.
On the Labour front, the 'silent period' was broken by the firing of its deputy leader and the 'election' of another, amid the wailing of many Labour supporters on the now former deputy leader's side.

@JOSEPH VELLA. I believe most of us will have more time to vent our frustration since if MLP is in power we will be unemployed! I don't know how MLP is going to create or keep up jobs, since if an industrialist creates projects he is a PN benefactor and if it is a Public project the government is wasting money! Just one mistake and the economic wheel grinds to a halt!
C. Bartoli
Dec 28th 2012, 15:33
@JOSEPH VELLA. And since for the lejburisti running a country is like a match of football, just keep in mind that if the economy wheel grinds to a halt, both the lejburisti and the nazzjonalisti will suffer!

No matter what the premises are the man gave his word that's going to be a silent Period. But Looking at NET 2 ( PBS) you can see what they meant by silent period
@ J Martinelli Why are you Blaming labour I personally voted for Dr. Farrugia but Understand the leaders decision and Hope Dr.Farrugia whom your party demonised for a long time will also understand that he is still welcomed by the PL

@John Zammit Joseph Muscat inaugurated the Hamrun Car Park uninvited and against the will of MLP MP. The best part is that MLP had nothing to do with this project since the land had been passed on to the council in a devolution process, and the council also benefited from an €88,000 grant under a Malta Environment and Planning Authority scheme.
