Celtic manager Neil Lennon is confident of keeping his squad together beyond the January transfer window after his side went seven points clear in Scotland with a 2-0 win away to Dundee on Wednesday.

A superb overhead kick from Georgios Samaras in the 16th minute put Celtic on their way before Gary Hooper sealed the win with a second-half strike at Dens Park.

It was Celtic’s fifth win in a row in the SPL – their sixth in all competitions – as Lennon’s side continue the defence of their title, and their impressive performances at home and in Europe have several clubs courting their players.

However, the Glasgow giants remain in the hunt for four trophies, including the Champions League, going into the new year for the first time since the reign of Jock Stein and Lennon hopes this will encourage his players to stick around.

“We are going well in all four competitions and I am very confident of keeping the squad together. I have had no phone calls about anyone and nobody knocking my door say they want to leave,” the Celtic manager said.

“I know I am going to get this a lot and I know there will be a lot of speculation and people making up stories as they go along but the club is stable and we don’t need to sell.

“If we get an astronomical offer from somebody then we will think about that but I am under no pressure to do that. It is a natural course of events but if people think Celtic are easy pickings let me tell them they are not.

“People say Celtic are a selling club but every club is a selling club and every player has their price.

“But I want to keep this squad together for as long as I can and I don’t see any reason why that can’t be past January.”
