Good luck Mr. Salomone. I am sure you will do your best in this new career. When marriage was first introduced gays and lesbians were banned, now that time changed and gays and lesbians are respected, why not showing their love by marriage ? What I do not agree is that they adopt children. Until now I see that the WORLD is not ready for it, but time will come for that too.

Speaking of divorce. What has changed in maltese society since it's introduction? How many strong marriages has it destroyed?

Just to clarify. Lesbianism was never illegal in malta. However one must understand the meaning of marriage before blabbering.

Has anyone ever noticed that the birth of the Cana Movement coicided with the pandemic of marriage breakups in Malta? What more proof is there that either they are teaching the wrong things or that they are irrelevant or both. Kind of ironic isn't it, but as good Catholics, we will persist.

I am happy to read that the new President of the Cana Movement is Dr. Galea Saomone .
In these times when there is a threat to christian marriage and worse still where marriage is being twisted to other forms beyond that of husband and wife, I am sure Dr. Galea Salomone will be capable to resist with his charisma the true value of marriage to the present generation within the Cana Movement.

And gays and lesbians shall never give up their dream that same sex marriages will be possible one day even in Malta. Divorce became legal, IVF will be soon possible. Same sex marriage will be possible soon in most European countries. Gays and lesbians shall fight for their rights peacefully. One day it will be possible in Malta. We need secular societies.

You are right on this one, anybody can dream , but dreams are just that .........dreams !!

M Borg,
The Maltese "dreamt" of having divorce and the dream came true.
With gay marriage we will not wait for 30-40 years behind the rest of Europe....it will happen in the next decade.
If you want to dream that it will not happen....go along and dream.
We will see who will have the last laugh.
Dr Galea Salamone is in for another disappointment!!

Thank you Dr. Vella for what you have done for the family in Malta.
Welcome Dr. Galea Salomone.
Lay people give us a good example. When their time is up, they step down and cede their place to others.
But not certain ecclesiastics who are past their 80 birthday!

The right person for the moment in history. Congratulations Arthur. Dun Karm (APS)

I just have read this short article and I think of 2011 when the Maltese voted YES in the referendum on divorce.
The referendum and the result was a landmark and it showed Malta is becoming more and more secular.
Hierarchical institutions have lost impact on the Maltese and in vitro fertilisation will be soon possible in Malta. An excellent development!

Most of the Maltese do not share your views.
Seeing that we are the ones to decide don't you think that what you wrote is out of place ? After all none of us interfere in your way of life .

Mr Borg the majority of Maltese agree with Mr Waschnig. By appointing Dr Galea Salamone as it's President the Cana movement has just dug it's own grave.

Mr Caruana, it appears from your comment that you don't give a toss about Catholic beliefs. So, what is it to you whether Cana digs its own grave or not?

M. Borg.... let's get over with it...
Want stable marriages? Get them wed right the first time round and help them keep it right.
IF you had any real wish for stable marriages you would have been advocating better pre-marriage support and learning for those who wed only in a civil setting.
Both opposition and government failed to see this and have done nothing on the matter.

@ Carmel J. Caruana.
Since when is 122547 (in a population of 400,00) the majority?
The majority of those who voted , yes, but the majority of Maltese , no.

So Tommy, in your opinion, the majority of Maltese did NOT vote for EU membership. The majority did NOT vote for PN in 2008 either.
The 400,000 figure you quoted included children who CANNOT vote.
People who for some reason did not vote, cannot for your convenience be counted as being anti- divorce.
You can bring up a million excuses Tommy, but the Maltese are not immature as you think we are!!

@ Adrian Cassar
Don't put words in my mouth that I never said. I simply objected to the phrase "majority of Maltese" when it is not the majority of Maltese.
With regard to the number of children in the population who could not vote, especially with regard to divorce, more's the pity for they are the ones who suffer most in marriage break-ups.
Tommy Vella

@ Adrian Cassar
By the way I never mentioned maturity or immaturity. For me you I think that you can find mature and immature persons among both those who accept divorce and those who do not accept it.
In my book when someone feels the need to stress his maturity that could be a sign of his immaturity.
