The Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS) recently presented the National Volunteer Award to Christopher Borg Cardona (St John Rescue Corps) during a ceremony at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta.

The board of adjudication was composed of Miriam Teuma, Joe Dimech and Glenn Bugeja. Philip Chircop (Cenral Bank Pensioners Association) and Rosalind Agius (Abandoned Animals Association) placed second and third respectively.

The awards were presented by council chairman Robert Farrugia and Miriam Teuma and Joe Dimech, chairwoman and member of the evaluation committee respectively.

During his speech, Mr Farrugia said year after year after one could constantly see the fruits of volunteering by voluntary organisations with beneficiaries and in our localities.

It was therefore imperative to continue sowing the seeds of volunteering even in our young children, to grow aware of the power of volunteering and its importance. Volunteering gives purpose to many people, but above all, volunteering gives much joy and fulfillment.
