The English-Speaking Union (ESU) Malta invites students aged 16 to 20 to register for its Public Speaking Academy from February 14 to 16 and its Debating Academy that will run between April 17 and 20.

The Public Speaking Academy workshops will train students in both prepared and impromptu speeches. ESU coaches will guide participants in the techniques needed to deliver a speech persuasively, such as the choice of words and the use of body, voice, face and eyes. The registration fee is €30.

Students may later opt for one-on-one sessions to prepare for a public speaking competition on March 6.

The Debating Academy programme involves groups of three students from the same school being trained in professional debating and to form well-researched, objective positions on a number of serious matters.

Participants may later opt to debate against local personalities in a debating roadshow from April 20 to 21.

The programme ends with the debating competition finals on April 24. The registration fee is €75 per team.

Students may register for the Public Speaking Academy until January 31 and for the Debating Academy until March 31. For details contact Yvette Micallef on yvette.micallef@esumalta.org or 7994 8866.
