MEP Louis Grech is the only candidate who has submitted a nomination to contest next Thursday’s election for deputy leader of the Labour Party.

The election is being held following Anglu Farrugia's resignation on Thursday.

Nominations were received by the PL until noon today.

Delegates will cast a secret vote next Thursday and Mr Grech, a former chairman of Air Malta has to obtain 50 per cent plus one of the votes cast to be elected deputy leader.

Voting will take place at the PL headquarters in Hamrun between 11am and 7pm and at the PL club in Victoria between 11am and 5pm.

Dr Farrugia was asked to resign by Labour leader Joseph Muscat following comments he made on Sunday.
