Update 2: Power fully restored

A trip in a 132kv distribution cable leading to the Mosta distribution centre led to extensive power cuts in the north of the island.

The cable tripped at around 5.20pm and Enemalta engineers immediately started working to locate the fault.

Readers from Birkirkara, Sliema, San Gwann, Naxxar and Gharghur, Hamrun, Attard, Mdina, Mellieha and Mosta reported power cuts.

The power started being restored at around 6pm and was fully restored by 7.07pm.

Further investigations are underway, the corporation said in a statement

Dont talk about pollution because if PN was not in power, the famous PL didnt even cross their mind to build a new power station. If a new power station hasnt been built, then we would still be using the one at Marsa working with coal.
With regards to power cuts, I think you forgot the 80's when we stayed days on end without power and water. If you dont remember, just read about it.

What about the 'il-giddieb ghomru qasir' theory?

Just when Enemalta was telling us what we all, including John Pace ("Muscat's secret" Pace called it!), knew and what Enemalta and KPMG had infamously denied, the 132kV cable had to fail. The "conspiracy" matured a year ago at the IPPC hearing where the troika of Enemalta engineers were silent when asked to justify the "brief" given to KPMG.

Sliema are getting used to it because it's not the first time of having a power failure.

Your comment has made it to my top 10 most ridiculous article comments of 2012. With this degree of intellectuality around, I think it's actually a pity the world did not disintegrate

Well said JM Borg, everytime there is some good news about the new power station there is a power cut. The engineers in charge looking at meter and computers should have realized that a cable is being overloaded and action taken like cut just a small substation or two off, however a cable can also be overloaded by diverting all supply through it. People wake up this sort of propaganda must stop.

You remember well Mr Borg ...yes we used to have power cuts way back in the 80's before election. Just remember there was Labour govermentand the PN wanted power at all costs.

Overloading is not a fault. Is there a computer that can tell you that a contractor will hit a cable in the next 5 minutes?! Maltese islands are full of genius, from top to bottom..

in 1980 labour was in goverment so if there was any sabotage it was from the pn side.

what is your argument that everything goes wrong even the human body but listen a human body is controlled by nature and the power cuts are a human error. So taking your advice from now on what ever happens we look at other countries and console ourselves that these are worst than us . go and tell it to the marines my friend

so for sliema better start looking for a second hand power station like Mintoff did and they will never experience electricity cuts any more. We have proof that the second power station Mintoff bought ,which the PN criticized for this , rarely gave enemalta trouble lol

Paul. I wouldn't be that quick to blame Enemalta. Before EVERY election, incidentally, or mysteriously, we get a lot of these cuts. Maybe to boost someone?
