Dame Helen Mirren will vie with Dame Judi Dench and Emily Blunt for best British actress at the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards.

Actress Dame Helen is nominated for her role as the film-maker’s wife in the film Hitchcock, while Dame Judi is up for two films, as MI5 boss in Skyfall and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

Blunt is also shortlisted for two films, Looper and Your Sister’s Sister, while the other nominees are Andrea Riseborough (Shadow Dancer) and Alice Lowe (Sightseers).

Michael Haneke’s Amour and Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master lead the nominations with seven apiece.

Bond star Daniel Craig is up for British actor of the year, competing against Daniel Day-Lewis for his role as the former US President in the Steven Spielberg film Lincoln. Skyfall has been nominated for five awards, including British film, supporting actor (Javier Bardem), and supporting actress (Dame Judi).

The five nominations make Skyfall, which recently made history at the UK box office, the most feted Bond film at the Critics’ Circle Awards.

Amour, Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Life of Pi and The Master are contending for film of the year.

The London Film Critics’ Circle comprises UK film critics, broadcasters and writers, who voted for the shortlist. The 33rd annual film awards will take place on January 20.

Irish films, film-makers and performers are eligible in British categories.
