AFM airlifts sailor to hospital

A Filipino sailor was hoisted onto a helicopter and ferried to Mater Dei Hospital this morning after falling ill on a ship off Malta.

The AFM said the cargo vessel Maersk Hirado was 40 miles off Malta when the sailor was reported to be ill.

The rescue was conducted by a joint Maltese-Italian crew on board an Italian Military Mission AB212 helicopter.
