Open Theatre gets its soft opening

The Open Theatre on the ruins of the old Opera House in Valletta got its soft opening this morning when a Christmas entertainment programme was launched.

The programme, presented by the Infrastructure Ministry, continues up to Christmas.

This is the second stage of the Piano project for Valletta to be inaugurated, the first having been de Valette Square.

Separately, the new Barrakka lift will also be inaugurated this evening.

John that is in everyones dreams to rebuild the magnificient original, hopefully one day it will happen.

Pull the other leg,ex PN Secretary Joe Saliba! Well attended? The handful of people(far from crowds)climbing up the stairs leave unimpressed by the cheap entertainment. There are empty seats everywhere &the audience made up of the kids' mummies minds is totally oblivious of the 'conservation' arrangement!

To what depths are you prepared to sink for your cheap propaganda that convinces nobody

@ S.Scerri
not only the ex sec. is a PN fan with the name.
not only the 'kids mummies' are strangers to the art of 'conservation'.
I know many a politician who believe that the end justify the means.
Why don't we try to act like intelligent men.

What's wrong with you Al?

That tarp and open air seating is as impressive as the rebuit Asolo theatre.

All you need is a cheap bottle of wine and, like a famous slogan, 'the world is fine as seen thru wine' - hic!

I'll resume my crying when sober.

@ joe tabone, I prefer having no money spent on this, than this, because its an utterly disguisting site. I would've rebuilt it the way it was and make it an art museum or something. And instead of the parliament I would've done a garden which would be nice seeing some greenery when you enter the city. worst project ever
@ E. vassallo. ever heard of project plans and photos?

Why don't you take up Dr Giovanni Bonello's challenge and give him proof of at least ONE document where he is referred to as 'La Vallette"???

There are many open air theatres around the world and many are in climate zones that are much wetter & colder than Malta. Those who have travelled will appreciate what a marvelous atmosphere open air theatres offer. As usual the Maltese show how little they have experienced of the rest of the world.

Louis Saliba

Dec 15th 2012, 20:17

@ C. Cassar

You have completely failed to grasp the point that what the majority of the Maltese are complaining about is that this open air "structure" is an unacceptable substitute for a proper opera house. And, as for your uncalled-for racist remark about the Maltese, quite a number probably have more experience of the rest of the world than you.

George, I hate to disillusion you, but all the people I know who are not going to vote at the next elections are all veteran PN voters who feel that their own party has betrayed them in promising to rebuild the Royal Opera House in every electoral manifesto, and repeatedly forgetting that promise once voted in.

@ Aaron Vella

Sorry, Mr Vella, associate me with loving things of beauty and being cautious on public sending, but certainly not a Lab supporter. I also pity my Maltese origin because independence of thought is not appreciated.

H. Psaila

Dec 15th 2012, 16:08

So why dont you change your nationality if you pity yourself being Maltese. Now the Labour government will be in power and then you will be proud to be Maltese is it what you mean? Go and get a life

Saviour Sam Agius

Dec 15th 2012, 16:18

Thinking independently is not only not appreciated, it's even unheard of.
