Judge Ray Pace resigns

Judge Raymond Pace has resigned.

The Department of Information said that the judge had called on President Abela to personally submit his resignation, saying his position as a judge was no longer tenable, independently of the outcome of the court proceedings he is undergoing.

Judge Pace is currently being held in custody after having been arraigned on Thursday and accused of bribery and trading in influence. However the Magistrates' Court allowed him to call on the President at San Anton.

The prime minister this morning presented an impeachment motion against Judge Pace but this will now be dropped.

The honourable way out for an allegedly dishonourable gentleman? It will be a pity that he has been forced to resign if subsequent enquiries prove otherwise and, as is always the case, innocent until proven guilty.

If he did not resign on his own, he would have had to go through the wringer and that would hurt him and his family more. I always said that it takes a man to resign and Judge Pace knew that. But remember that a man is deemed innocent until proven guilty. Only time will tell.
