The Paola council has called on the authorities to find a more suitable place for the circus, which has been set up in the parking area of the Addolorata Cemetery.

In a statement, it expressed its disapproval that this had been done and noted that it had twice refused to issue a permit for this.

The council insisted that the parking area was not a suitable place for the circus - it was next door to a cemetery visited by scores of people daily and was creating an inconvenience to the same people who visited the cemetery.

The council was also worried about the dangers the presence of certain wild animals in a busy zone could create.

The circus had originally applied to be set up at a car park adjacent to the Granaries in Floriana but it was refused a police licence.
