Melita have moved to strengthen their squad after signing two Spanish players.

Goalkeeper Guillermo Gabilondo Garcia, 20, and Daniel Cabanillas Ayllon, a 25-year-old striker, are expected to make their debut for Melita in Sunday’s daunting match against champions Valletta.

Garcia’s last club was SD Beasain, from the Tercera Division, while Ayllon played for Racing de Ferrol, also in the fourth tier of Spanish football.

Patxi Salinas, Melita’s Spanish coach, is believed to have played a key role in luring Garcia and Ayllon, both amateur players, to join the relegation strugglers.

The other foreigners on Melita’s books are Manuel Ramon Sierra Camacho, of Spain, Portuguese Rudi Alhinho, and Serbian duo Ivan Tufegdzic and Jovan Vukanic.

Ayllon will replace fellow Spanish striker Jose Luis Armaro Negrin who joined Rabat Ajax last week after ending his brief spell with Melita.

Negrin capped his Rabat debut with a late equaliser in a 3-3 draw against title hopefuls Birkirkara last weekend.

Melita will be hoping that their new signings will give the team a much-needed push as they look to revive their survival hopes after collecting a paltry six points from 14 games.
