The police are questioning Mr Justice Raymond Pace in connection with a drugs  investigation, well placed sources have said.

The judge is being questioned at police headquarters.

Mr Justice Pace, 54,  was appointed a judge in February 1998 and serves mostly in the Constitutional Court, having previously served in the Civil Court and the Criminal Appeals Court.

He was also the first judge to be assigned duties in the family section of the Civil Court when it was set up.

Mr Justice Pace also lectures in the University on human rights and on civil procedure.
