Budget rejected as Debono votes with the Opposition
The Budget was defeated this evening, with Franco Debono, as promised, joining the Opposition to vote 'no'.
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said he will tomorrow call on the President to advise him when to dissolve Parliament and when to call a general election.
MPs were asked to stand when the votes were taken.
Dr Debono said that his actions were laying the foundation stone of new, modern democracy where everyone was held to account.
Both Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Opposition leader Joseph Muscat will hold press conferences later this evening.
The vote was 35 against and 34 in favour of the Budget.

Twenty-five years is a long time to be in government, seeing that the budget was basically approved on both sides one wouldn't be surprised that a sweet deal between the PN and PL was arranged so that the PL would come to power after such a long time, the budget can then be ``modified`` knowing that most of its contents are untenable and be done away with anyway, watch this space.

As a floating voter i was pretty much inclined to vote for labour. Watching the parliament sitting yesterday evening i was horrified at the fact that if labour is trusted, the future of my sibling will be in the hands of people like Joe Debono Grech, Charles Mangion and all the same lot that crash landed this country years ago. In my opinion joseph is just a new façade to an old house.

Certain people continue to be known by some act or attribute by which they are remembered (such as father of the nation, or usherer of democracy). Never mind what in his infantile mind he thinks he has achieved, Debono will be remembered as "l-Irrelevanti". Ser tibqghlek xbin!

cont: tactic move by the PN...they were preparing this for months , and try to claw some of the undecided voters....sorry ,but you must be a fool to fall for this....if you were going to vote LP a month ago, what happened yesterday shouldnt change your mind and ,if you are a die hard PN supporter , even if LP voted in favour of the budget, still you would vote PN....

Be fair with us citizens. Not the Budget was actually rejected but the corruption in most institutions let to rein by the government of Dr.Gonzi.There is no Sincerity with us and credibility this is felt by many.Dr.Gonzi mentioned how many gratuated students complete university and find work, but he didn't mention where? Most of them had to leave our country and work abroad and leave there families

For the PN this is mission complete. The target was to stretch till December and reduce as much as possible the loss of votes and try to gain back disgruntled voters. As if the PN cared if the budget passed or not. The PM steered wisely by gaining time and avoid certain defeat. That is what the government cared for!
A huge lot of coincidences occurred to stretch till the Christmas period.
C Busuttil

they streched till December but they may reduce the gap but they will lose, its the end of era the sooner you realize this the sooner you will be at peace with yourself.

This vote was a vote of confidence in the Government. Expecting an Opposition, any Opposition, in any democracy to give a Government its confidence is pathetic! This is a democracy and expecting the Opposition to give its Political opponent its confidence goes against every form of common sense! The problem was Debono. The problem was in GonziPN!
