Any kind of ailment or disability may present challenges. But this does not mean life cannot be fulfilling and satisfying.

For some people, receiving care at home is the best option- Olivia Cuschieri

For many people, a rewarding life means being able to manage and have control over routine and daily tasks and also being able to determine a way of life. Nonetheless, a lot of people with difficulties or disabilities may initially feel baffled, down or distressed about their forthcoming life.

Disability may emerge in different forms, but the immense psychological effect on a person’s life and the family cannot be overlooked or ignored.

Seeking assistance is of utmost importance, so that as much support as possible may be given to the elderly or person with disability and the next of kin.

On the other hand, it is very important that people who assist such families are, at all times, understanding and supportive.

Very often people with a disability may feel apprehensive and thus may keep back from approaching organisations that might support and even help them. For this reason, getting acquainted with people who experience much the same challenges can prove to be significantly helpful and useful.

Generally, being given assistance in activities of daily living, like bathing, dressing and cooking, can make it more feasible for a person to keep living independently in one’s own home. This can help to enhance the individual’s well-being and boost up the process of rehabilitation.

It is a well-known fact that both the elderly as well as people with disabilities prefer to remain living in their own homes, rather than having to resort to living in a residential home. Nevertheless, many elderly or disabled people who feel they can still cope, to a large extent, on their own in their home with just a little assistance, opt to go to a residential home so that they would not be of a burden on their family.

In addition, for a lot of people, independence also means having a job and still work-ing after retirement. Work occupies most of the day and this proves to be beneficial for a person to stay psychologically, intellectually and mentally healthy.

That is why it is paramount to have the right support when receiving care services.

It is best to find a care service provider that is highly recommended by care professionals. When people receive the right care and support, they are bound to feel they are allotted greater choice and control over their lives. This tends to make the person have and enjoy much more flexibility.

For some people, receiving care at home is the best option because it would mean they can stay in their own home while receiving one-to-one, personalised support, thus helping them to cope better with their daily routines such as getting ready for work.

While receiving assistance at home, the person receiving support would remain as independent as possible, knowing that someone is ready to help. With the right amount of support, a person can generally manage to live in one’s own home, potentially remain in employment and thus be able to appreciate a more independent life.

Independent living is all about how people with a disability, or with any kind of ailment, can have equal, identical authority, choice and independence on their daily living as any other person.

Any kind of limitations will unavoidably convey new challenges, but they should at no time control anyone in living content and accomp-lished life.
