Berlusconi to run for Premiership
Photo: Reuters
Silvio Berlusconi says he's running to be premier again - for the good of Italy.
The media mogul confirmed to reporters today that he'll try for a fourth term. Mr Berlusconi quit in disgrace as premier last year after failing to save Italy from its sovereign debt crisis. He has since been convicted of tax fraud and now faces plunging poll numbers.
He withdrew support for Premier Mario Monti's technocrat government on Thursday, increasing the prospects for early elections.
Mr Monti called the political crisis triggered by the loss of Berlusconi's support "manageable" and said his government has rescued Italy from financial disaster.
Me Berlusconi said "the campaign is already on" and he's running "out of a sense of responsibility" toward recession-plagued Italy.

Monti carried out in a quasi-dictatorial way what Berlusconi had been trying to do for a long time, but wth hs opposition putting in all manner of spanners in the wheels. Remeber that there was already a techn-gov way back in the 90's after a socialist bout in gov, only for a tech-gov to pave the way for economic survival. Then Berlusconi went in to continue on the same track, but he was deposed.

Our democracy is based on the fact that those elected by the people take decisions for the gd of the country. Yet politicians are most often lawyers or doctors thus limiting the field of expertise of gov. Reading reports is not enough. I believe that a technocratic gov with people chosen for their knowledge in particular areas should be the way a gov is formed.

Mario Monti saved Italy from financial collapse and consequently saved the EU and Eurozone. I think Berlusconi is the worst thing that could happen to Italy right now.

He has since been convicted of tax fraud - should he not be in prison? Also, if he is not in prison should a convicted criminal be allowed to run for office?

Possibli kif anqas jaf jisthi.
He thinks that with his millions and the puppets that surround him he is going to be re-elected PM. He will ruin all the good work that has been carried out by Mario Monti, who in the short period of 1 year managed to give back to Italy the standing that it always enjoyed with the big ones of the world. The Italians will regret the day they re-elect him PM.

He is the only Italian politician who became rich before becoming a politician. All other politicians became rich after having entered politics. In my opinion all Italian politicians should precede Berlusconi in retiring to the hotel

This can't be happening!!! How can a person accused with such crimes contest the election?!
Alex Ellul
Dec 8th 2012, 22:39
What crimes? Berlusconi is the only Italian, and most probably also the only EU, politician who became rich before he became a politician. He was forced to enter politics when the communists/socialist tandem tried to close down his TV stations because they were afraid of losing the RAI monopoly. So Berlusconi entered politics to destroy the communist party, and he managed to do just that.

So after destroying the communists, the magistrates who had been criminally installed by the socialists/communists during their time in power turned on Berlusconi attacking him like a pack of hyenas attack a buffalo. Instead of going for the multitude of corrupt MP's they went through Berlusconi's life with a microscope, for long years until they found some tax evations, Italy's national hobby.
