Just read a blog which was all about why said blogger is a floater. You know the type—they float and sit on a fence and love spoiling their vote. She explains that this time it will either be AD or maybe she will, at the last minute, decide to stay indoors and get her garage looking spick and span.

I do know that garages need clearing. And I also know that sometimes democracy doesn’t seem to work too well. In fact it sometimes produces quirks like Franco Debono after all. But I have always felt that the vote is something really special.

I would not really mind a floater with proper and well-thought-out reasons for being non-aligned, tearing that precious vote and in the process dumping both mega parties of this isle.

When the reasons cited are as vacuous as those cited by her my heart really bleeds. The LP she dumps because they won’t state what their plans are and because they won’t say what they stand for. So what’s new—haven’t Labour always been a bit like that? Always a bit of a mystery what lies behind them, worried sick that their policies will be torn to shreds by the media hounds.

Back to the PN and why we should dump them according to the blog I read. So let’s see. Did she dump them because the y messed up the economy? Emptied the hotels? Ransacked the banks? Is it because their policies resulted in great youth unemployment and these same youths are now all on a rampage in their unemployed frustration? Is it because we need some dramatic bailout? No to all. It’s because—wait for it and I promise this is the honest truth—some youths who are somewhat affiliated to the PN have won the Junior College election and gave the famous middle finger to their opponents. Oh lord save us from such heinous sins or we shall all join the floaters.

I re-read her piece and that’s what it states. Now aren’t youths youths? Isn’t that how they are expected to act?  I’ve been there and done that and am sure the other blogger did too. If youths don’t do this when they are young and carefree then God spare us from their ultra-boring stuff when they are older.

To be honest she did say that there was another reason why she is a floater—the PN issued some leaflet that according to her said some silly things. Yes fine, I might agree that the leaflet was full of drivel. But is that enough to decide to dump the party? If those two things are the main sins of the political class then we really are living in bliss. Maybe Net TV aren’t such blatant liars after all and what they have been saying about Malta is all true.

Long live floaters and their faulty thinking.
