Malta’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York, ambassador Christopher Grima has been elected to chair the Disarmament Commission next year.
The commission is currently considering two agenda items: “Recommendations for achieving the objective of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons” and “Practical confidence-building measures in the field of conventional weapons”.
The United Nations Disarmament Commission is a subsidiary organ of the General Assembly composed of all UN member states.
Created as a deliberative body, the Commission considers and makes recommendations on various issues in the field of disarmament and reports annually to the General Assembly.
