Abstracts, figurative art, seascapes and landscapes are some of the themes featuring in this year’s Pastel Society of Malta exhibition.

The society is holding its sixth annual exhibition at the Hotel Cavalieri in St Julian’s between Saturday and January 17.

More than 20 artists are taking part in the exhibition, which will be open 24 hours, seven days a week, and has 56 paintings on display.

Society members will also be present at times to demonstrate the use of pastels.

The Pastel Society of Malta was set up in 2006 by a small number of artists keen on pastels as a medium. Their aim is to promote the use of pastel and help people appreciate the versatility and beauty of this medium. This small group of artists meet once a month to exchange technical information.
