Gatt: Busuttil will make 'excellent' deputy leader

Infrastructure Minister Austin Gatt said this evening that Simon Busuttil will be an 'excellent' deputy leader of the Nationalist Party.

Dr Gatt made the comment when he wrapped up an interview on Radio 101 where he was questioned about the Budget.

Just yesterday Dr Busuttil when asked about Dr Gatt, told The Sunday Times that he is prepared to work with Austin Gatt if the minister was prepared to work with him.

"I've always worked well with Austin Gatt, though I tend to end up disagreeing with him after spending five minutes in the same room.

But we respect each other and I'm prepared to work with him if he's prepared to work with me," he said.

Paul Saliba what you cannot understand, is that one can work with people you disagree with once you accept the goodwill of the other towards a common goal.

This is something PL historically has never and will never understand. For PL the only action to do in such circumstance is “crush” them!

You do not know Austin Gatt well my friend. Austin Gatt who will be out of politics very shortly will be remembered for his role in keeping the labour government in opposition for 25 years and that is a great achievment and no wonder he is hated by all labourites. Whether good or bad he delivered much more than Joseph Muscat or Alfred Sant put together. He is outspoken and you know where you stand

@HFA. What's that got to do with my comment? Was he responsible for the 1996 election results? Do you think he succeeded in the mentioned projects? What about being arrogant beyond belief .especially when confronted by reporters (ghamilna pipi etc etc..) ? And why was he voted the least popular minister?

Tidher li ma tuzax it-trasport pubbliku ghax kieku zgur ma kontx tghid grazzi. Forsi dwar it-tniggis tal-arja - forsi dan kien l-uniku vantagg li ggwadanjajna minn din id-disriforma.

I use public transport every day and yes I have to say thank you to Austin Gatt for giving me a service with practically no charge because .50 cents for a return trip is peanuts. Gone are the old buses which were okay in colour but disastrous inside with fuming engines, serpent gear leavers, undated upholstery, window show tatoo drivers with a maltese cigar in their mouth and a caged sponson.

SB has the backing of the two strategists Saliba and RCC plus the party councilors. That's a strong position. Dr A Gatt has had his fill and already declared he will not contest the next election. If push comes to shove he will send everyone to hell. That is what 'if he is prepared to work with me' means.

It is too late Mr.Formosa, it is not a question of appointing people it is a question of CHANGING the people!

Does Simon Busuttil change the exorbitant utility tarrifs we have been paying?NO
Does it change the fact that the Nationalist cabinet awarded themselves a 500 to 600 euros weekly pay rise on our backs?NO
Dose it change the fact that we now have a state of the art public transport system which in reality is worst then the one it was meant to replace?NO

@Mr Stephen Borg
Lejber knew about the 500 increment and even worse, the moment Joseph Muscat smelled a chance to become PM, all of a sudden he had a change of heart on the increment, and decided that should he be PM, he would set a board to decide how much the incremenet would be!! If I where you I would reconsider voting for someone who changes his opinion so quickly!!

G Schembri

Joseph Aquilina- J. Muscat said he would only take a pay rise when and if the financial situation in Malta made it possible for everyone to have better wages. Then he said he would not give himself a pay rise but would set a board to decide on the amount . Get your facts right - the PL knew that the Cabinet meant to give themselves a pay rise, but did not know that they had taken it.

Mr Joe Micallef

G.Schembri, with Joey at the helm the promise is that everyone will be better off, or isn't it.

Ergo Joey will get his wage increase immediately. The difference is that, being the coward he is, he will make other government appointed officials decide on his wage rise (which will automatically mean they get one too). You’re so pathetically oblivious aren’t you!
