Drago furious at himself after bizarre concession

Maltese snooker legend Tony Drago repeatedly hit himself after a bizarre concession this week at qualifying for the German Masters.

Eurosport.com reported that Drago was trailing Alan McManus in the deciding frame of their match, and had just pulled off the second of two snookers he needed to give himself a great chance of winning the match.

But just as he seemed set to wrap things up, he missed a simple shot on the pink to hand the advantage back to the Scot.

Infuriated, he conceded the match with an outstretched hand. McManus was declared the winner despite the frame still being up for grabs by either man, with 13 points the difference between the two and 18 points still available.

Drago instantly tried to retract his concession.

McManus refused and Drago went to his corner banged the side of his head several times in anger.

It was fair, he chose to concede. he should pay attention better next time.

It's bad sportmanship from Drago... he conceded the match to McManus.
If someone gave you a gift would you return it if that someone decides to take it back?

im more inclined to call it sheer ignorance on Drago's side at not being able to do his one plus one!!

Yeah I agree he shouldn't have thrown a tantrum and conceded. McManus refused...goes to show that perhaps he didn't have the guts to go the whole hog though and win on his own merit, rather then quickly accepting concession. See what I mean?

It is not fair to say that he is our only sport hero. We had another snooker champion, there is a young man who is quite good at shooting, the Rugby team is getting some good results as well. I am not very interested in sports but I've heard of Tony Drago. You are right though we only give importance to football, even when it comes to money and grounds the ministery only has time for football.

Malta's only sports hero? Check out the consistent performances of the National Rugby team before you comment further!

Hero because he's the only one who has won top titles. I aknowledge that the rugby team is doing really well and has a rosy future ahead. I guess it's a clean sport while the corrupt football, despite the millions invested in facilties by the gov, never fails to embarass us.

rugby's maltese success?!?!

most of 'our' players aren't even maltese and we play against mediocre teams. t drago played against the best of the snooker world and for many years he succeeded at the top!

well, until 'our' rugby team is not mentioned in the website of eurosports, i'll keep tony drago as one of the biggest name in local sports and much, much higher then 'our' rugby team!

I'm sorry to say, but the rugby team is nowhere near being a world champion as Drago was many times! He's a legend!!
