Troubled US actress Lindsay Lohan has been arrested once again, this time on assault charges after a fight with a woman in a New York nightclub in the early hours of yesterday, police said.

“She was charged with assault” and ordered to appear at a later date, a New York Police Department (NYPD) spokeswoman said, adding that the 26-year-old actress allegedly struck the other woman.

Lohan – once a promising young starlet after earning plaudits for her roles in The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday as a child – has been trying to rebuild her life after a series of run-ins with the law.

Drug problems have led to several prison stays. In March, an LA judge formally ended Lohan’s probation after a long string of court appearances, but told her to “stop the nightclubbing” and behave more maturely.

Pussy Riot video banned

A Moscow court has ruled that the video of punk band Pussy Riot’s performance in Russia’s main cathedral is extremist and ordered it to be removed from the internet.

The band was protesting over Vladimir Putin’s impending third term as the country’s President.

Three members of the band were found guilty of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred earlier this year. Two of them received two-year sentences while the third was given a suspended sentence.

Putin’s critics described the Pussy Riot trial as a political vendetta.

The Moscow court today banned the video of their February performance and said it should be removed from all websites.

Bush Sr, 88, in hospital

Former US President George H.W. Bush has been hospitalised in Texas because of complications from bronchitis, a hospital spokeswoman said yesterday.

Bush, who is 88, was in stable condition at Methodist Hospital in Houston and is expected to be released within 72 hours, the spokeswoman, Stephanie Asin, said.

She declined to say exactly when Bush had been hospitalised, saying only that he has been “in and out” of the facility for treatment of complications related to his bronchitis.
