Health & Safety in Malta is non existent, plant operators lack proper training and cut corners. I use to do health & safety audits in the UK as an Engineer and when I see how plant operators work here in Malta I cringe, shut my eyes and walk away in disgust.

Don't blame you Charles, you can't put some one with out a little bit of knowleg that used the be very handy with a Pala U Baqqun and then ask him to operate a mechanical over night just like that.

It's a pile driver and not a mechanical digger.

Note HSE Malta: There are no safety barriers around the mechanical digger clearly creating a danger to passers by. The video shows pedestrians forced off the pavement and walking on the road with on coming cars. Why are contractors allowed to ignore all safety regulations?? Have we already forgotten the case of the young lady who was injured from falling equipment?? Why do we never learn??

Note Lawrence -we dont have a OHSA (the purportedd HSE here) as it exists in name only!

it's not a mechanical digger... it's a pile drilling machine. just pointing out.

Hope the not- yet- dried -ink on the operator of this machine's certifcate of competence didn't smudge too much.We will never know how or why this incident occurred -along with all the others- as the conclusions any "investgations" undertaken are never made public.Probably this is just another unavoidable and unpreventable Act of God!

The wind is blowing at 16 knots. Maybe a good reason.

Its such a shame that with the works they are doing they have ruined this pretty bay. There are many flashbacks of when they build the Portomaso tower and polluted the sea nearby...

The bay has been improved hugely since the beach was constructed. It now attract thosands of people each week during the summer months because it is attractive now. Before the beach was built, no one used to bother stopping there.

After the large amount of money spent to upgrade the area,( St George's bay) the diggers move in... again...lousy planning, and not just in this area. we will see the new road surfacing at sliema ferries suffer the same fate, just wait and see. (You will not have to wait much, just as soon as the project is "finished")
