Valletta coach Mark Miller is running the rule over a young Nigerian striker.

Joseph Jojo Agonuppe is believed to have left a positive impression in his first training sessions with Valletta this week.

The Maltese champions are eager to increase their attacking options to improve their chances of retaining the league title.

A disappointing run of five matches without a win has pushed Valletta into second place in the table, one point behind Birkirkara, and raised questions about the contribution of some of the team’s foreigners.

Valletta have five Brazilians on their books, namely Ricardo, who plays in defence, midfielders Wil-liam Barbosa and Gabriel, and Denni and Leandro, both forwards.

Agonuppe’s trial shows City’s readiness to assess new foreigners with a view to strengthening Miller’s squad in January.

The English coach is particularly keen to bring in a striker as his team have struggled to convert their superior possession into goals in their last few games.

Valletta have already recruited Jason Lee Vandelannoite after the Belgian defender terminated his contract with Hibs last month. The Citizens must wait until the transfer window reopens in January to register Vandelannoite.

Rumours are also rife that Valletta are prepared to relaunch their bid to lure back winger Frank Temile who is currently playing on loan with Ukrainian side PFC Olexandria from Dynamo Kiev.

Temile, 22, is expected to make a short visit to Malta soon.

One-match ban
• Melita’s Karl Vella Petroni was yesterday given a one-match ban for four yellow cards.

He will miss Melita’s league match against Hibs on Dec. 7.
