What do you think about the Budget?

What does the man on the street think about the budget?

Timesofmalta.com asked around and found out that while majority said they had not followed the proceedings, those who did were mostly in favour.

Pensioners said that the €4 cost of living wage adjustment was not enough to cover their needs but parents were happy with the increase in the children's allowance and the tax reduction. Others commented that this was a futile exercise as the Budget was not going to go through parliament.

Have your say at http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles/view/20121129/budget-2013/have-your-say-budget-2013.447346

ECG, What I would like to know is how places such as eastern European countries, poorest in the EU, afford to heat their houses for about 6 months and still afford to pay the bill. Fuel might not be regulated by the government but the tax on the fuel sure is.

How would you know, Mr Borg? Labour hasn't been in a position to deliver since God knows how long. In the few years I remember of their administration, they didn't deliver much, and brought our country to its knees.

Alexander Brincat

@ Mark Galea

Excuse me. Who is bringing the country and its fellow citizens to their knees with very expensive utility bills and extravagant spending antics?

Nice one Mr Galea.

Mela il-course muhiex ta'l-universita huwa xi course privat?

Caroline McAlister

Nov 29th 2012, 16:27

YES! you should pay towards your education. As a self-employed, I'm fed up having to fork out money for students who in reality do not deserve a stipend. Living next to the University, one just cant help seeing the large number of expensive cars being driven by so called poor students!!! Come on!!! Stipends should be abolished once and for all!!!!!!

Nov 29th 2012, 16:53

Jiena mhux studneta tal universita imma tal mcast u la ghandi rota u ahseb wara kemm ghandi karozza lusuza, jiena nuza iserviz tal qamel tal arriva u ghal informazjoni mil ''stippend'' irid inhalas 21 euros f xahar !!

Nov 29th 2012, 17:07

Nikita - allura qed tghid li l-istipendju qed ikoprilek l-ispejjez tat-transport u ohrajn (bhal mobile etc.)?

Hekk ghandu jaghmel stipendju, jew trid iggemma bizzejjed biex tixtri karozza wkoll? Taf li pajjizi ohra jhalsu eluf ta liri fis-sena, jridu jikru post fejn joqghodu, transport hafna ghola minn hawn u johorgu mill-universita b'loan jigri warajhom?

Ms Rudi Mcbeal

Nov 29th 2012, 17:22

Nakita, you should be grateful then, my dear - if you lived somewhere else you would getno stipends and nothing but still end up paying a lot more for public transport.

Concerning your "servizz tal-qamel arriva", when one hears the same buzz words over and over and over again, one starts to believe them. My family's experiences concerning public transport are totally different than yours.

Fred Saliba

Nov 29th 2012, 21:01

Robert, those people have unfortunately been brought up in the socialist era and make a ton of children, claim all sorts of social benefits and work off the grid. The PN is trying to tackle those. Labour promoted them - mil benniena sal qabar niehdu hsiebek ahna- that's the Socialist philosophy. Not accepting this would be a lie to yourself.

Rudi, he didn't miss the point, he just tried to divert the conversation. It's already in 2 occasions on this article where he said "who are you to tell him/her what to do?" - but always fail to make a constructive argument in relation to the actual comment.

Oh, and Darren, who are you to know whether she gets her hair done, dines out and drinks on a Friday. Int mhux tiggudika wkoll qieghed?

Nov 29th 2012, 15:39

with all due respect Ms. Mcbeal but I agree with her I am a student too and sometimes some books cost are more than 85 euros , and not to mention that we have to buy other books too ... and Stipend does not cover us at all .

A Cuschieri

Nov 29th 2012, 15:39

I had the same reaction. If this is our country's future, then we're in trouble.

Ms Rudi Mcbeal

Nov 29th 2012, 16:03

Same goes for you then K Pace - GO and study in another European country! Not only you will NOT get 1 cent to study but you MUST pay thousands! And after you finish your studies the possibilities are that you won't be able to find a job..

I have lived abroad for several years. Our daughter paid for her studies and had to do week-end jobs to get some extra cash. Are you able to do the same?

Darren Attard Bonnici

Nov 29th 2012, 16:07

Who are you to tell her what to do... why don't you go to another european country ... and i work here in Malta with my family?...

Ms Rudi Mcbeal

Nov 29th 2012, 16:29

Unlike you, been there, done that, MasterAttard Bonnici. I am not making anyone do anything, I am making an attempt to make certain people see sense, as impossible as it may seem.

Work here, with your family, if that is what you wish to do but please stop moaning in order to cease sounding so spoilt.

A Cuschieri

Nov 29th 2012, 16:30

In Malta, students get a good sum in their smart cards at the begenning of EVERY year, and a monthly stipend - which most complain is not enough for books because they spend it on mobile top-up cards.

Abroad, students take loans to cover tuition expenses and after graduating they still have a lump sum of their loan to pay back whilst struggling to find a job.

Caroline McAlister

Nov 29th 2012, 16:30

These so called students who are complaining, should get off their backsides and find a part time job!!!! Start earning but also start paying taxes like the rest of us are doing for your benefit!!!!!!
