People who travel to Gozo and spend at least one night there during the winter will benefit from a reduce ferry fare equivalent to that paid by people resident in Gozo, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech announced in the Budget speech this evening.

The scheme will apply to those who stay in a licensed establishment between November and February.

Speaking about the government's plans for the sister island, the minister said the government is planning to build a business centre and a child development centre.

There will be further investment in the hospital, including chemotherapy services. A dementia unit will be set up as well as a half-way house for people with mental problems. There will also be a night shelter for the elderly.

Unemployed Gozitans will also receive training.

Works will continue on the Zewwieqa Waterfront project and the restoration of the Citadella. The government is also planning to start work on a  new breakwater in Marsalforn and a waterfront in Xlendi.
