Updated: Gas prices rise
Liquigas this evening announced an increase in gas prices, blaming high international prices.
The company said the 12kg cylinder, which is the mostly widely used, now costs €20.60 up by €1 euro since the last increase, also of €1, in September.
The 15kg cylinder costs €25.80, up by €1.30
The increase was announced just as Finance Minister Tonio Fenech started his Budget speech. Later in the speech the minister announced a €10 increase in the gas component of the energy benefit given by the government to 24,000 needy families.

What's not rising on this small island!! The wages for those who barely make it to the end of the week. Constant rises in fuel, gas, postage rates and so on and so forth. Where's the competition between the gas companies that should bring prices down if there is competition after all.

For those who live in flats and maisonettes and for all those who have no permission to install panels on their roofs they can buy a heat pump which will not only provide them with hot wate but also dehumidifying and heating of the house.
Mr Andrew Camilleri

What's a heat pump? How does it work? On what does it run?

@C. Bartoli, can you please give us more information on heat pump, thank you.

that is a lot of money for a gas cylinder.............this is how malta is always able to finance stipends, free healthcare and cutting taxes on the rich. by hitting everyone........with these type of taxes and people get fooled.

When the price of post went up, I predicted this was the start of a raft of price increases and I was right.
I predicted gas would go up €1
petrol 4c
Diesel 5c
Today we see Gas up €1
Petrol up 2c and Diesel up 2c.
I bet tomorrow we will see petrol up another 2c and diesel up due to the "cost of price increases on the international market" despite oil prices dropping.

@John Smith, for all those who live in flats and maisonettes and for those who have no permission to install panels on their roofs can install a heat pump.
Mr Andrew Camilleri
Nov 29th 2012, 16:44
Simon no I do not get it. How am I supposed to heat the house without gas or electricity? True there is always a wood fire or coal. But what do you suggest?

Where is Easygas?
Do they still supply gas?
At what price?
It is good to know, where is the competition?

Why is this company ALLOWED to increase the price of gas almost every month? At this rate gas will be more of a LUXURY than a COMMODITY.

Why all this moaning? The majority of the Maltese electorate voted for GonziPN which stands for inefficiency, mismanagement, jobs for the boys, wrong priorities, missed opportunities, astronomical cost of living, cooked statistics and no accountability. Well, you got what you bargained for!!!!!

We definitely need a change. The LPG price hike means that we are footing the cost of the new Liquigas plant. MRA is simply a rubber stamp. Local shareholder of Liquigas is one of the big benefactors of PN.
Hope that PL will check the costings that they have presented to MRA to verify facts.

In Malta under this administration the rich are getting richer; the poor are getting poorer. Hopefully there will be a much needed change in government as this lot are too fragmented and tired to deliver.

Let's face it- fossil energy prices will know only one direction-up! It doesn't help to moan about the prices on one side but still building houses in a mediocre style with limestone, cheap drafty aluminium windows and no insulation at all. The additional costs of such investments will pay off faster each time energy prices rise and have additional advantages like avoiding humidity problems.

What not again, the maltese are having a laugh for sure, its bad enough for most of us expats having to pay 30% more then the indiginous/locals for our utilitiy bills,& now the blooming gas, what choice has one got now that winter is approaching, and your minister increased your cost of living by 4€ +, funny ha haha ha. just a minute while i jot it down for my book on local dry jokes.
