Children's allowance rises

The minimum rate of children's allowance will rise from €350 to €450 per child, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech announced in the Budget today. The allowance will be of €527 for families on the minimum wage.20,400 families are expected to benefit.

Mr Fenech said the government is planning to build childcare centres in Naxxar, San Gwann, Gzira and Zurrieq.

Parents who send their children to childcare centres will continue to benefit up to €1,300 in tax rebates while mothers who return to work after being away for five years or more to raise children will continue to benefit from a tax-free period of one year.

As announced last year, maternity leave is rising to 18 weeks.

Super Socialist or government with a heart? By any chance are you the same guy who once ran for AN because if you are I think the people told you and your heartless politics to go packing some 5 years ago when the sad excuse of a political party that was AN was humbled at the polls.

a 3rd party will never make it in Malta.... Just read again AN's Manifest and you will find out that most of our points had to come into force because Malta and Europe is going bankrupt.... Obviously you are another socialist who is happy to keep on increasing debt. Don't worry you will soon have to start sharing misery because that is what socialism always gets in return

Are you telling us that a new Labour government will not build any new childcare centres?

This is part of a process, part of a plan. Rome wasn't built in a day.
