JPO cuts birthday cake during PM's official visit
Independent MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando turned 49 today and celebrated with a cake at the offices of the Malta Council for Science and Technology during an official tour by the prime minister.
Dr Pullicino Orlando, who is chairman of the MCST, and CEO Nicholas Sammut briefed Dr Gonzi on the latest projects conducted by the council.
However, when the tour was over Dr Pullicino Orlando invited guests and staff to his office where a big chocolate cake with 'Happy Birthday Jeffrey' written on it, was laid on a table.
Dr Pullicino Orlando cut the cake under the glare of press and television cameras.
Though he looked surprised by the move, Dr Gonzi joined in to congratulate Dr Pullicino Orlando.
When asked, Dr Pullicino Orlando said he had cleared the event with the Office of the Prime Minister beforehand.
On his Facebook page, Dr Pullicino Orlando this morning announced the prime minister's visit and said he would offer him some birthday cake.

First of all Happy Birthday Jeffrey Pullicino.. For those of you mumbling bad wishes, remember that if it was not for Jeffrey Pullicino there would be no divorces allowed in Malta, Remember the days when you could only apply for an annulment through the church and pay a lot of money to get one.. If it wasn't for JPO and Franco Debono we would have a dictatorship in our midst. Think about that.

What dictatorship are you talking about? Looks like you did not live during the socialist regime of the 80's.
E Schembri
Nov 27th 2012, 16:24
Divorce is for the people who do not believe in marriage and need to have a backdoor for when their relationship hits a downhill. That is not much to be proud of, as many consider that as Dr Pullicino worst political move.
Also, annulment and divorce are two completely separate issues, so please educate yourself.
And where is the dictatorship, with the election right round the corner?

E. Schembri: Id- "dictatorship" issibu fil-kliem li qal Dr. Gonzi ftit tal-granet ilu , meta qal " mhu se nhallu lil hadd jigi quddiemna u jippretendi li nhalluh jiehu r-riedni tal-pajjiz f'idejh " ! Qisu Malta saret propjeta tieghu !

I suggest you come out of that cardboard box you live in.The only difference between divorce and an annulment was the big money the church used to charge to grant that annulment, not to mention the politics that went with it.What do you call 25 years under the same party? How do you explain the fiasco of Arriva and the almost bankruptcy of Air Malta?WHat about City Gate and the Topless Opera House?

Mr Dennis Agius - please check your spelling before writing these howlers. Additionally, please produce the agreement between Malta and the Khmer Rouge as well as between Malta and Communist Russia. If you cannot substantiate, then please don't make things up (in other words - please don't tell lies).

It was never a divorce issue. It was a matter of choice issue.

What does a church annulment and a state divorce have in common? NOTHING!
and as usual someone like you will start mentioning all sorts of other 'not-related' matters when it's obvious that you LOST your argument.

I admire the Prime Minister for being a sport, but I would not even look at the egoist selfish self centred prima donna who thinks that Malta owes him a favour.
Happy birthday indeed! he behaves like a spoilt 6 year old 49!!!! impossible where is the maturity gone?

I am sure there must have been a heartfelt rendering of "For he is a jolly good fellow and so say all of us". I would like to have been present to hear the PM mouthing such congratulatory words. Perhaps some sung the Maltese variation which goes "For he is a jolly good fellow {long pause] which anybody can deny.".

People can always be civilized to each other. Why not. It's part of political life. And what is wrong if the PM or any other member of parlament on both sides of the political spectrum attending each other's birthdy. Isn't that what citizens of a civilized society do. Sometimes, there is more bad blood among people in the same party than those of opposite parties.
