Young Maltese in the running to receive the EU's Nobel Peace Prize
Larkin Zahra
Larkin Zahra has been pre-selected along with 15 other young people from other EU countries to receive the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the European Union in Oslo.
The selection was made in a contest organised by the EU whereby participants were asked: What does peace in Europe mean to you?
Larkin's reply was: My grandparents would have said "a dream". My parents would have said "a process". I say that it's my everyday reality!
A Facebook competition will determine who gets the chance to go to Oslo (the link is: http://www.facebook.com/PeaceEuropeFuture).
"I didn't expect to come so far in the contest and it is only with the help of my fellow Maltese that I can make it to Oslo," Larkin said, while appealing for public support.
Larkin was already well ahead in the Facebook voting this morning with 86 votes.

Congratulations and good luck to this young man but his statement depends on the definition of peace. If you take peace as lack of war then it is a reality. Personally though I take peace as meaning harmony, coexistence and stability. The current state of Europe with the fighting, protests and abundant racism is a far cry from peace.

What is the Nobel Peace Prize. Does anyone really know the meaning of what this means. People have gotten it and they continue with wars or were at one time terrorist. The EU is one big bureaucracy. Does it really qualify to be a nobel peace prize winner..........I am not an expert, and will let other judge. One man I can think of who got it and deserved it is President Jimmy Carter.
