Final-year dance students have embarked on a three-week tour that will take them to the UK’s Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, the country’s leading dance centre.

The students, who are reading for a Bachelor in Dance Studies (Hons) at the University of Malta, will be performing in Malta and the UK with four original choreographies.

The programme premiered on Saturday at St Monica School in Gżira.

The performance forms part of a study module called Professional Performance in Practice.

Rehearsal director Lucia Piquero Alvarez and artistic director Mavin Khoo open and close the performance with a cast of eight dancers.

Mr Alvarez’s opening number Penumbra is accompanied by the music of Alberto Garcia and Victor Gil, while Mr Khoo’s Simplistically Complex-ed will be performed to Symphony No. 6 in F Major K 43 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The performance includes work by Scottish performer and choreographer Kenneth Tindall and Israeli dance practitioner Keren Markovitch.

The dancers performed at the Laban Centre in London and the Northern Ballet in Leeds yesterday and will perform again tomorrow. The final show will be held at the Manoel Theatre on December 12.
