Sexton dies: Former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Dave Sexton has died at the age of 82. Sexton won the FA Cup with Chelsea in 1970 before leading the club to their first European trophy with success in the European Cup Winners’ Cup the following season. As a player, Sexton played for Luton Town, West Ham United, Leyton Orient, Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace.

Beckham: Harry Redknapp has rekindled his interest in signing David Beckham, as he bids to guide new club QPR towards safety. “I’m sure he could still play in the Premier League,” Redknapp said. “He is a top player and a fantastic person. We had him at Tottenham training and he was amazing around the place, absolute class.”

Wiese: Hoffenheim will be without Germany goalkeeper Tim Wiese for the next three weeks with a knee injury. The 30-year-old damaged ligaments in his right knee in the last training session before yesterday’s game against Bayer Leverkusen. Tests revealed the injury which is expected to keep him out until just before next month’s winter break.

Roma: Roma will have to face court action after deciding to terminate their contract with kit suppliers Kappa due to ‘serious defects’. Roma said they would only wear Kappa material until the end of the season but the sports firm intend to take the case to court. “The reasons they gave with regards to the quality of material are nothing more than excuses,” a Kappa statement said.

Emery: Spartak Moscow fired their Spanish coach Unai Emery yesterday, minutes after suffering a humiliating 1-5 thrashing at home at the hands of local rivals Dynamo. “The club’s shareholders have taken the decision that Unai Emery will no longer coach Spartak,” the club’s general director Valery Karpin told reporters after the game’s final whistle. Emery signed a two-year contract with Spartak this summer.

Pabon: Dorlan Pabon, the Parma forward, is back in Colombia after his son fell seriously ill. Pabon will be away indefinitely and misses tonight’s Serie A match against Inter. “It was right not to reveal anything out of respect for the lad and his little boy,” Parma general manager Pietro Leonardi said.
