Waste at your service
Video: Mark Zammit Cordina
A visit to a waste facility may not be many people's idea of fun but quite a good number answered WasteServ's call and visited the Sant’Antnin waste treatment plant in Marsascala, which opened its doors to the public today.
Activities included face painting, jugglers, games, animators, stilt walkers and arts and crafts for children, while site tours in a double decker bus were organised for families to learn the processes undertaken at the plant.
The day remains open to the public until 4.30pm.

I wonder were are all those people that protested against this plant a few years back? i also notice that none of them are protesting that they do not wish to receive a reduction on their electricity bills! now they go on television and state oh i cant smell anything! not the same song they were crying about a few years ago.i remeber them saying it will ruin wied il Ghajn and drop property value

What criteria has been used to find the 'priviledged 3000 families who will benefit from energy discounts?? In it's heyday this plant was smelt from all over the village and this includes Bellavista, Siberia, San Tumas and even Zonqor areas. Answers please.

This is incredible News, In the 90 the Pl have refused to talk about Solid Waste, Hazardous Waste and even Air Pollution and now seems that this company is being blessed by the same Government that did not even wanted to listen to biodegradable Bags with the Hamrun Local Council. What a joke I wonder why all this publicity.

Prosit Wasteserv. How about organising tours in the summer when the area stinks of rotting rubbish to say the least. Have been complaining since 2010, come next summer.....

The WasteServ like any other have odour issues and it is offensive to anyone but they could built odour scrubbers to cut down the offensive stench, they could even use the plants gases to run machineries, blowers and boilers. As for the civil workers their immune system will handle their environment but they should also be protected with hepatitis A shots. The job has to be done by someone afterall

A great educational initiative but wasted on many Maltese who fail to understand what education is.

100% agree. I am a resident in Marsascala and can assure everyone that up to 10 years ago it used to smell really aweful at times but in the last years I'd rarely ever smelled anything. And must admit glad to be part of a place where we shall have one of the biggest and nicest parks in Malta. And yes just beside a recycling plant..why not.

You said a pace forward How do you describe the matter that foul offensive smell is still being experienced by the residents

L-ideja hi, edukazzjoni kemm ghal-kbar u zghar. Il-Ministru ta l-edukazzjoni ghandu wkoll iheggeg l-iskejjel biex jorganizzaw tours f'dan il-qasam biex jightalmu ezatt x'jigri wara li narmu l-iskald jew wara l-flushing a toilet.U b'hekk nitghalmu biex nipprotegu aktar l-ambjent.

That's what schools should avoid to do in bringing children to an area were gas could be in the surroundings

The "Sant-Antnin recycling plant was originally made to turn waist into Compost But up to now no compost was retrieved. Further if you want to have a look at the plant the best day is during the week when it's working not on a day that prior to it saw an invasion of foreign coloured persons all cleaning the area
