­An Italian man who recently admitted to stealing cheques from an architect’s office has been jailed over a 2009 theft of €6,000 worth of cigarettes.

Giuseppe Mermina, 52, was sent to prison for two years after he admitted to stealing the cigarettes and €1,200 in cash from Bianco’s restaurant in St Julian’s in 2009.

Just a week ago he was jailed for two years, suspended for four, after he admitted to stealing cheques and other objects from an architect’s office on November 1.
