I refer to the very interesting and informative article written by Mgr Charles Vella regarding my uncle Fr Carlo Manché (The Sunday Times, November 11).

Mgr Vella described very well Fr Manché’s character and way of life as well as his work among his parishioners. My reason of writing, besides congratulating Mgr Vella on his article, is to correct a very important event in Fr Manché’s life – the date of his death which happened on November 18, 1950, and not September 28, 1950 as stated in the article.

It is also worth mentioning that the Gzira parish commemorated this anniversary during every mass held last Sunday (November 18) at the Gzira parish church. The Gzira parish council also published and distributed a small leaflet about Fr Manché with a short biography as well as a prayer in his memory.

Another correction, maybe of less importance, is the fact that the first parish priest of Gzira, Fr Anton Manché, is in fact Fr Carlo Manché’s third cousin and not as stated in the article as no relation. As a matter of interest while Fr Anton Manché was the first parish priest of Gzira, his brother Fr Vincenzo Manché was the first parish priest of Stella Maris parish in Sliema.
