Floriana boosted their hopes of getting back in the reckoning in the battle for a place in the Championship Pool when they eased past Hamrun Spartans 2-0 at the Hibs Stadium.
Igor Coronado was the catalyst of the Greens’ victory yesterday as the Brazilian put up an impressive display as his surging runs completely tore apart the Spartans defence.
Floriana dominated proceedings for much of the first half but had to wait till the 35th minute to take the lead when they were awarded a corner-kick and Coronado picked Mark Spiteri who beat Andrea Cassar from routine distance.
The Spartans’ reaction never materialised and Floriana could have added to their lead but were denied time and again by the excellent goalkeeping of the young Andrea Cassar.
The Greens all but sealed the points three minutes from time when from an Arman Verma corner-kick, Darmanin was on hand to head the ball into the net.
Floriana’s Igor Coronado was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
