St Thomas More College Fgura Primary A is involved in a Comenius project called Smile whose main aim is to issue an online and print newspaper every term by all the partner schools to further engage them with real life and the working world.
The newspaper will be distributed to the families of students at the schools as well as the local community.
The newspaper topics will be chosen to make the children think about and question their position in Europe as they examine each other’s lifestyles, traditions, customs and views.
The project will also involve creating a virtual workspace where each school can upload a wide range of material to share with partner schools about school and local activities.
Smile aims to improve the pupils’ social skills, motivate them to enjoy learning, enhance the use of information communication technology and create lifelong learning and friendship. It also aims to share best practices in education across Europe.
The first meeting of the project partners from Malta, Norway, Finland, Belgium, France, Italy, Scotland, Greece and Bulgaria was held recently.
The project is funded by the EU Commission under the Lifelong Learning Programme.
