Following a well-attended annual general meeting held recently, Sliema ASC elected a new committee for season 2012/2013.
A notable absent name among the list of candidates was that of Tony Psaila who decided not to contest the election after 36 years of sterling service to the club, 33 of which as secretary.
Psaila served under three different club presidents and helped in no small way to stir Sliema on to a record number of successes.
His place in the committee will be borne by newcomer Darren Saliba who will have the unenviable task of replacing Psaila as secretary.
Michael Gatt, who was re-elected as president of the club, said:
“Tony’s knowledge, experience and driving force will be sorely missed and I do not envy the challenge our new secretary will face in his initial year.
“On behalf of the committee and members I would like to thank Tony for his dedication and commitment to the club over such a long period of time.”
