The constituency office of Nationalist Party president Marthese Portelli in San Ġwann was broken into earlier this week.

We did not touch anything and immediately called the police

Dr Portelli wrote on Facebook that personal belongings were stolen and some photographs were burned, adding that she would “continue to work and be of service to the people and the party”.

The break-in was discovered by Dr Portelli and her husband Jesmond when they took some items to the office, located opposite the San Ġwann school, on Thursday evening.

“We did not touch anything and immediately called the police. It seems someone broke in through the front window and clambered over the sofa, which had muddy footprints, before going through all the rooms,” she said.

Dr Portelli was last at the office on Tuesday afternoon.

“Luckily, there was nothing much inside. I wouldn’t like to say that the break-in is politically motivated. But I find it strange that someone broke in only now that we were furnishing the place and only burned my images,” she said.

The Nationalist Party said such acts would not intimidate Dr Portelli or any other candidate from serving the country.
