A man has been ordered by the court to pay a company €9,000, representing the value of goods he stole from the company’s warehouse.

The court heard that Justin Farrugia and others had been charged with having stolen goods from the company's warehouse over a three month period last year.

The value was not quantified in the Criminal Court judgment, but the court declared it exceeded €2,329.  Mr Farrugia had admitted to the criminal charges and was found guilty.

C Camilleri &Sons (Catering) then requested the court to order Mr Farrugia to pay it €11,159.89 for the stolen goods.

Mr Justice Anthony Ellul accepted Mr Farrugia's plea that the sum claimed by the company was excessive.

The company's calculation that Mr Farrugia and his accomplices had stolen 746 bottles of wine was exaggerated and ordered Mr Farrugia to pay the company €9,000.
